Aug. 11 airpower summary




8/12/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Aug. 11, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Khowst
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released multiple precision-guided munitions over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagements successful.

Kandahar
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted multiple strafing runs and released rockets over enemy positions to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs deemed the engagements successful.

Asmar
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs deemed the engagements successful.

Morghab
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The F-15E aircrews conducted a show of presence and a show of force to deter enemy activity. Coalition aircrews conducted shows of force over enemy positions to deter enemy activity. JTACs called the engagements successful.

Chahar Bagh
A-10 pilots, Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators and Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The A-10 Pilots strafed enemy targets to deter enemy activity. The F/A-18C pilots conducted multiple shows of force with flares to deter enemy activity. The RPA operators released precision-guided munitions and missiles over enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs deemed the engagements successful.

Shahidan
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of force which ground controllers called successful.

Tirgari
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released precision-guided munitions over enemy positions to deter enemy activity. JTACs called the engagement successful.

Sangin
Navy F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force with flares to deter enemy activity which JTACs deemed successful.

Sheykabad
F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots performed a show of force and conducted strafing runs over enemy positions to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagements successful.

Shinkay
A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force with flares to deter enemy activity. JTACs called the engagements successful.

Soltani
Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force with flares to deter enemy activity which JTACs declared successful.

Badghis Province
An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Farah Province
An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 6,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province
C-17 aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 160,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Paktika Province
C-17 aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 79,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
