7/28/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations July 27, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Musa Qala
Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released precision-guided munitions against an enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and joint terminal attack controllers called the engagement successful

Morghab
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a shows of force to deter enemy activity. JTACs and ground controllers declared the engagements successful

Lashkar Gah
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots and Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The A-10 pilots conducted a show of force over an enemy position. The F/A-18C pilots conducted a show of force with flares and performed strafing runs over an enemy target to deter enemy activity. JTACs and ground controllers declared the engagements successful.

Shinkay
F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of presence which ground controllers declared successful.

Soltani
Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet pilots and Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The F/A-18E and F-16C pilots conducted shows of force over several enemy positions to deter enemy activity. JTACs and ground controllers called the engagements successful.

Chahar Bagh

Asadabad
A-10 pilots and F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots performed shows of force with flares over enemy positions. The aircrews released precision-guided munitions against several enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagements successful.

Sangin
F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force with flares which JTACs declared successful.

Asmar
A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and performed multiple strafing runs against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagements successful.

Helmand Province
Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 176,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Laghman Province
An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Laghman Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 15,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province
A C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 66,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
