A two-year-old boy has been mauled to death by five pit bull terriers at his family home in America.

Jacob Bisbee opened the garage door at the four-bedroom house in Concord, California (http://indepth.news.sky.com/InDepth/topic/California), and was immediately savaged by the pack of dogs.
Police said the toddler suffered "very severe" injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital.
His grandfather Steven Hayashi, 52, who was not at home at the time, has been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and owning dangerous animals.
All five of his dogs were put down by Contra Costa County Animal Services.
A police spokesman said officers had no idea why the animals attacked.
He said: "The dogs were part of the household. As far as I know, they had them as pets."

People living in the cul-de-sac said there were several recent incidents when the dogs had run loose in the street.
One neighbour, Elizabeth Mazan, told CBS she was washing her car when one of the pit bulls ran up to her and began barking.
"I was scared, but when she told the dog to go home, it did," she said.
The child's death has renewed calls for dangerous dog laws to be strengthened in the US, in the wake of other attacks.
A 71-year-old man was killed and three others injured in a pit bull attack in Memphis, Tennessee.
Authorities in Worcester, Massachusetts, are also considering imposing tighter restrictions on owning the animals.
Official figures show 2% of dogs in the city are licensed as pit bulls, while 25% of all reported dog bites are caused by the breed.

Here we go public reaction time, dogs are devil etc, try the focus on the owners for once and you might see less of this stuff.

Currently in this very room as i type there are 2 greyhounds a springer spanial a small shepherd mix and a full grown german shepherd along with a 14yr old. Anyone can bring any age child into this house and the dogs wont do more than sniff walk away and lie down. That is proper socialisation and training. I dont believe pit type dogs (they are not a breed) are any more dangerous than any other dog however the more powerful the breed and the more dominant the nature the more training and control you must have. That child should never have been alone in the house let alone in a house with dogs shut away somewhere. When mine need to be shut away for whatever reason the are behind a locked dog gate and a locked solid fire door with the key out of child reach. Thats common sense. Would i trust any of mine alone with a child ? absolutely not but then what idiot leaves a child of any age alone with a dog

it only takes one dog to attack and the pack will follow.i think anyone who has 5 pit bulls must be mad. i hope he gets punished and also the person who was in the house looking after the child.i wouldn't even let the child out without checking the door to the garage were secure and then i don't know if i'd let him go out .needless to say i'm sickened by this death.
