6/27/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations June 26, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Mushan
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots and A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. The A-10 pilots conducted cannon-fire strafing runs on enemy positions when actions developed into a threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers called the engagements successful. The F-16C pilots released precision-guided munitions on an enemy position that was determined to be a threat to friendly forces.

Lashkar Gah
Coalition operators and aircrews, and Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch and area reconnaissance for friendly forces. The pilots and aircrews conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter enemy activity. The Hornet pilots strafed and coalition aircrews released precision-guided munitions against enemy fighting positions. Coalition operators released a missile against enemy fighting positions, which ground controllers considered successful.

Asadabad
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews and pilots released precision-guided munitions against enemy positions when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Shahidan
