A six-week-old baby boy has survived being catapulted from a car travelling at 70mph.

Jonathan Samuel was flung out of his father's car after a tyre blew, causing it to spin six times before smashing into the central reservation of the M6 near Wigan.

Still strapped in his car seat, the newborn flew out of the window, bounced along the fast lane before sliding out of his harness and eventually coming to a halt on the edge of the carriageway.

His father Oliver, 31, told the Sunday Mirror how he jumped out of the car and searched urgently for his missing son.

He said: ‘I was screaming because I expected to find parts of him and see blood. I was looking for his body.’

After finding Jonathan’s empty car seat, the father-of-two added: ‘It was like a nightmare getting worse, it was agony. Our baby was gone.’

Oliver then heard crying and spotted his son lying in the outside lane – as a pair of headlights approached – before snatching him back to safety.

He brought his unharmed baby back to hysterical wife Sadaf, who said: ‘I just grabbed the baby, bracing myself for what I might see. But there wasn’t a scratch.

‘He was distressed but as soon as I cuddled him he fell asleep.’

Baby Jonathan was checked over by hospital staff who found him ‘fit and well, alert and happy.’
