6/9/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations June 8, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Bari Kowt
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and an Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Friendly forces reported taking enemy sniper fire and the aircrews released precision-guided munitions against enemy positions to neutralize and terminate enemy fire. Ground controllers confirmed the actions were successful.

Kandahar
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, mixed with cannon-fire strafing runs and rocket fire to deter enemy action when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when no further enemy action occurred.

Bagram
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted shows of force to deter anti-Afghan forces action. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when all enemy action ceased.

Ghazni
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. The aircrews conducted shows of force and a show of presence, which ground controllers declared successful.

Asmar
A B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. The aircrew released precision guided weapons against enemy sniper positions at the request of friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful.

Soltani
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted strafing runs against enemy fighting positions in a tree line when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased.

Konduz
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity, which ground controllers declared successful.

Bermel
F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter suspicious activity, which joint terminal attack controllers declared successful.

Cobra
A Navy EA-B Prowler aircrew conducted a show of force to deter enemy action, which ground controllers declared it successful.

Airlift Action

Zabul Province
Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 62,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province
C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 31,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Oruzgan Province
A C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
