6/8/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations June 7, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Close-Air Support
Asmar
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots and a U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew supported friendly ground forces. Ground controllers passed coordinates for enemy positions to the aircrew and pilots, who released precision-guided munitions and eliminated threats to friendly forces. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers called the engagements successful.
Parmakan
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots and Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly forces. The pilots and operators coordinated with coalition JTACs to deter enemy action. When enemy forces were observed using caves and a treeline position during attacks on friendly forces, the pilots conducted cannon-fire strafing runs then released precision-guided munitions against enemy positions. The enemy positions were destroyed and the attacks ceased. The operators observed a hidden enemy vehicle and released a missile against the target, which destroyed the enemy vehicle. Coalition aircrews conducted a show of force over a concentration of insurgents who were massing and about to attack friendly ground forces. Ground controllers declared all the actions successful when no enemy attacks occurred.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews, A-10 pilots and coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews and pilots conducted shows of force, one with flares launched, to deter enemy action when ground forces reported taking enemy fire. Enemy fire ceased briefly and when more enemy fire broke out, the F-15E aircrews made strafing runs to deter further enemy action. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased.

The operators observed enemy forces at a hilltop position, firing on friendly forces and released a missile against the enemy position, which was destroyed. One of the F-16C pilots observed enemy forces, with weapons, and released a precision-guided munition to destroy the enemy position. This was followed by shows of force to deter any further enemy actions. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.
