Soldier attacked at club has died

A SOLDIER who was attacked just hours after returning from Afghanistan has died.

David Grout, 22, suffered severe head injuries in the assault which happened as he was celebrating his homecoming with family.
He was rushed to hospital with head injuries but he died today, a week after the attack.

Coma

After the incident a family member said: "He'd only been back in the country for a few hours when this happened.
"He made it through a warzone unscathed to come back and be put in hospital by scumbags.
"If they think they are big men, they should get over to Afghanistan and see what real men are like.
"David is the brave one - not them - he's the one fighting for his country."
David, married to wife Kerry, joined the Army straight from school.
He was a member of the 204 Royal Signals Regiment and had spent two months in Helmand province — his third tour of the country — before returning home for a short break.
He landed at noon last Tuesday but at 6.32pm he was attacked after stepping outside the Eston Institute, in Eston, Middlesbrough, for a cigarette.

He was rushed to hospital with bleeding on the brain and he slipped into a coma from which he never recovered.
Kerry, mum of his 22-month-old son Harry, wrote on a website: "Can't stop crying and thinking of my babe lying there helpless."
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Dave Mead, of Cleveland Police, said today: "Our thoughts are with his family, Kerry his wife and Harley his son at this sad time."
A 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after handing himself in to police. He was released on police bail, pending further inquiries.

R.I.P

I'm sure you will remember this story. It is with great sadness that I tell you of his death. David Grout had only been home a few days from his third grueling tour. Then two thugs kicked him to death. Today I am ashamed of being an Englishman, but proud to know there are some decent men out there willing to serve. R.I.P. David

Everyday that I see another death in combat, it takes a little longer to accept the loss, this poor lads death will never go away. What a sad loss of a brave life, taken by some one who is a total waste of a life. This is just too sad for words.

I hope they catch the bastard and string him up.

I hope someone else catches them and does a hell of a lot worse.

I hope that some of his unit can get hold of them before they go down.
Barroom tough guys. In their hearts they knew that they were afraid of combat, and were jealous that he wasn't. After some booze they were brave enough to go two on one. Pussys...
