5/17/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations May 16, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Close-Air Support
Gardez
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported taking enemy small-arms fire, aircrews conducted a show of force and show of presence.
Kabul
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter anti-Afghan forces activity, which ground controllers declared successful.
Remak
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and friendly forces patrols. Pilots conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter enemy activity when one patrol reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy contact was broken and friendly forces were able to withdraw from the area.
Karokh
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and reconnaissance for suspicious activity. The aircrew conducted a show of presence and a show of force to deter contact with hostile forces when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers called the actions successful.
