5/14/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations May 13 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Ghazni
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for a coalition forces tactical operation. Coalition forces reported enemy forces attacking with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. The pilots eliminated the threat to coalition forces with precision-guided munitions. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers deemed the operation successful.

Asmar
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Friendly forces reported an imminent attack and coordinates for an enemy fighting position were passed to the aircrews. The aircrews released precision-guided munitions on the coordinates and the enemy fighting position was destroyed. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Shkin
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched; to break enemy contact with friendly forces that were taking enemy rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when enemy fire ceased and there was no further contact with enemy forces.

Remak
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots and F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. The pilots received confirmed coordinates of an enemy fighting position. The A-10 pilots released precision-guided munitions and made a cannon fire strafing run against the enemy position that destroyed it. The F-15E aircrews conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter further enemy fire against friendly forces. Ground controllers declared all actions successful when no further activity was noted.

Lashkar Gah
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Ground controllers directed the aircrews to conduct a show of force, with flares launched, that deterred any further enemy fire against friendly forces.

Asadabad
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. The aircrews observed enemy fire against friendly forces and responded with precision-guided munitions against the enemy position. Ground controllers declared the action successful when no further enemy fire was noted.

Farah
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew conducted shows of force to deter enemy action in the area. JTACs declared the shows of force successful.

Logar Province
Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Logar Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 24,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province
An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 38,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province
A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 24,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
