As things swing down in Iraq again it looks like there's been a decline in RKG-3 attacks. The question I have for our military members: how effective were these attacks to begin with? I know they've caused at least a few casualties and are pretty easy to acquire, but they seem too risky for most insurgent groups to try. You have to be standing like 15 ft away to have any hope of hitting.

The Insurgency was HAMMERING Humvees in '06 and '07 until the MRAP's arrived in Iraq. The RKG3's would annihilate Humvees and I've seen a few MRAP's get knocked out, but there just isn't enough stock of them smuggled into Iraq. The Iraqi Border Patrol is doing a really good job.

And yes, they are extremely risky, that's why they're not that effective.
