Whether or not they were on the "wrong" side of the war, I respect the German veterans of WW2. They were a damn good, professional, formidable enemy, and truth be told, the "rank and file" of the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe WERE NOT hardcore, Jew-stomping exterminators, but merely patriotic young men helping their country's way in the world. They grew up in HARD times, and many would argue they had it WORSE than our vets who grew up in the States during the Depression.

They were also the last PROFESSIONAL and (at most times anyways) ETHICAL enemy we've faced. From what I've read, in most cases, they didn't torture US POW's, and were respectful of the Geneva Conventions Agreement in Stalag camps towards all the Allied Boys.

Eric, my grandad did but he was in the Luftwaffe - flew Junker52 airplanes - but he had (compared to others) an ok time - it was very bad at the end when they had no control over the air anymore and he said he was
terribly scared everytime he went up.
But he was a Hauptman which was quite a high rank so he sleept all his time in a bed.
Got injured a short time before the war in the leg and survived.
I know some others who were actually fighting on the ground - one guy (an uncle of a friend of mine) who survived the eastern front and is only talking about it when he gets a little drunk but dAMN the stuff he says its just crazy.
But you know yourself eric the once that talk freely about it are usualy the once that haven't seen much and the once that have gone through hell see no reason to talk about it.

When people ask my why I like to play as Germans in WW2 games, I answer them: I HATE the Nazi's but I ALWAYS respect the Germans. I think they fought bravely and as courages as any other army in WW2.

Ok I understand Nico. I understand that not all Germans were the extremists. Just like not all soldiers from the south during the American civil war were slave holding racist people. I completely understand why most Americans at the onset WW2 were sympathetic towards the Germans because of the treaty of Versailles. That treaty was extremely lop sided and set those who would take advantage of all of the poverty and want to instill national pride through socialist idea's. I feel for your grandfather Nico. With Hitler fucking up the procurement of more modern planes things could have been a lot different.
