Finnish Peacekeepers Take Part in Capturing Afghan Rebels

Finnish peacekeeping forces have helped security forces in Afghanistan capture rebels. Afghan security officials were assisted by Finnish and Swedish ISAF forces in the capture of four suspected rebels in an area west of Mazar-i-Sharif.

Also confiscated in the raid were weapons and about 70 kilograms of drugs.

The arrests proceeded relatively peacefully, and only a few shots were fired.

About 300 soldiers took part in the search operation on Tuesday and Wednesday. The aim was to pacify an area known to be a hotbed of unrest, where several attacks have taken place against Afghan officials and foreign forces.

The Finns and the Swedes assisted in the operation with personnel including explosives experts, medical units, and dog patrols.
