ISLAMABAD, Dec 27 (KUNA) -- The death toll in US missile strike in a Pakistani tribal agency has increased to fourteen, said sources here on Sunday.
About two missiles were fired by a US drone on Saturday in Syedgai village near Miramshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan tribal agency. The missiles hit a suspected militant compound.
Citing tribal sources local Dawn news channel reported that the death toll has increased to fourteen. Some reports suggested further rise in the death toll saying about two of the wounded were still said to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, military jet fighters were pounding suspected militant hideouts in the neighboring South Waziristan tribal agency. Security officials told KUNA that the shelling was being conducted in Katori and adjoining areas. Casualties were reported but no figure was immediately available.
Pakistani army has been conducting operation in South Waziristan since October. More than five hundred militants have been killed and hundreds apprehended. (end) amn.bz.
