HUNDREDS of mourners turned out yesterday to salute a hero para who died rescuing a journalist from the Taliban.

Cpl John Harrison, 29, was killed in a helicopter raid to free New York Times reporter Stephen Farrell, 46.

The soldier was gunned down last Wednesday at the enemy HQ in a remote area of northern Afghanistan.

Fallen ... Cpl John Harrison and Kingsman Jason Dunn-Bridgeman

Cpl Harrison, from East Kilbride, Scotland, was repatriated to RAF Lyneham, Wilts, with 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment Kingsman Jason Dunn-Bridgeman, 20, of Liverpool.

He was shot in Helmand on Sunday.

Their coffins, draped in Union flags, were driven slowly through Wootton Bassett, Wilts.

Meanwhile, hundreds gathered at Ford George barracks near Inverness for the funeral of Black Watch Sgt Stuart "Gus" Millar, 40, who was killed in a grenade attack in Helmand on August 31.

Widow Jillian said: "Gus was my rock."
