8/26/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Aug. 25, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces near Asadabad. They reported taking fire from several enemy positions and requested air power assistance in destroying the positions. Precision-guided munitions were released on the confirmed enemy positions, destroying the positions and ending enemy aggression.

Marine AV-8B Harrier aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces near Lashkar Gah. The aircraft focused on a tree line enemy rocket position and when confirmed, launched a precision-guided munition on the position. The action was determined successful when secondary explosions occurred adding to destruction of enemy weapons.

Coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces near Mushan. The friendly forces reported a potential threat from an enemy position and requested assistance from air power. The position was confirmed and a precision guided munition destroyed the position.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles at Asmar were requested to prevent enemy forces from massing in an open field. This was accomplished using precision-guided munitions.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft provided armed overwatch at Oruzgan and then delivered armed interdiction for a friendly force's mobile operation. Cannon fire and a precision-guided munition aided in the capture of numerous enemy personnel.

Joint terminal attack controllers assigned to coalition units verified the success of these missions.

Thirty Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. In addition, two Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In total, 75 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

In Iraq, a total of 24 close-air-support missions were flown in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt hostile activities.

Twenty-seven Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. In addition, two Air Force aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

Air Force C-130 Hecurles aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Air Force airlift crews flew 138 airlift sorties, 658 short tons of cargo were delivered and about 3,800 passengers were transported. Airlift included about 210,000 pounds of aerial resupply cargo dropped over Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews flew as part of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

On Aug. 23, Air Force HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters and "Guardian Angel" teams transported 14 patients to coalition field hospitals from locations in Afghanistan. Pararescue Team members aboard the helicopters located, rescued and began treatment to stabilize patients in the battlefield. The Pave Hawks transported these patients to field hospitals in less time than it takes for a civilian patient to reach emergency care by ambulance in most major cities.

U.S. Air Force aerial refueling crews flew 54 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.4 million pounds of fuel to 246 receiving aircraft

I like them because the AF doesn't get the "spotlight" that much as far as this much info. I have sat through breifings but its not until you digest the info that you see the real meat behind it. Think of the fuel delivered that kept the birds afloat to supprot the ground troops...246 birds that myfirend is a lot of cannons, bombs, and pain inflicted. 658 tons is a shit load of supplies...most of it class4. Think of all the gound pounders who will be on the receiving end...the average troop carries at a minimum 75 pounds....that burns calories. Not to mention ammo..remember minimum a riflemen carries is 210 rounds...saw gunnr..800 rounds....240 crew carries 1,000 rounds. If the supplies dont fly then the troops die.

Gotta digest the info and look at the bigger picture.
