COMMENDATION FOR GALLANTRY
Australian Army
Private Trent OLLIS, Qld
For gallantry in action in hazardous circumstances while acting as Lead Scout of 12 Platoon, Security Task Group, 2nd Reconstruction Task Force under enemy fire at Musazai on the 8th August 2007.
On 8 August 2007, Private Ollis, as Lead Scout, led his Platoon to safety following an ambush. During this contact he was directly engaged by small arms, machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire, with one grenade landing 15 meters from him and another passing two meters over his head. He remained in unprotected positions in open ground, reporting enemy locations to his command and laid down suppressing fire, which neutralized the effect of enemy fire and flanking maneuvers and allowed his Platoon to break contact safely and withdraw.
