1950-ADSCOM establishes a headquarters at Taejon. Task Force Smith ("B" & "C" Companies, ½ 1st Battalion Headquarters Company, ½ a communications platoon, a composite platoon of 75mm recoilless rifle with of 4 guns, and 4 4.2" mortars - 406 infantry total) troops destined to be flown into Suwon are flown into Pusan instead and were immediately put on a train for Taejon. Remainder of 24th Division to follow. Gen. Dean is also named to command all U.S. Army Forces in Korea (USAFIK.)

1951-1st MAW night fighters destroyed first enemy aircraft in night combat during Korean War.

1952-The lst Marine Division (Reinforced) continued to occupy, organize and actively defend its sector, I Corps, Eighth U. S. Army, Korea.

While enroute from Wonsan to Sancho, USS Albuquerque (PFT) was taken under fire by 122 mm batteries in the Kojo area. USS Perkins (DDR 877) came to her assistance with suppression fire and was also taken under fire at a range of 11,000 yards. The enemy batteries were silenced, and no damage was suffered by the warships, although they were straddled. Enemy fired 75 to 100 rounds during engagement.


1953-HMCS Athabaskan (DDE) trapped a southbound train on North Korea's East Coast. The locomotive escaped but approximately 20 boxcars were left behind. USS Wiltsie (DD 716) and TF 77 aircraft then came to their aid and the resultant team demolished 17 of the boxcars.
