You think that idiot we have in the white would have thought of the sequstrian cuts would cut airshows across the boards and that they are a great recruiting tool and also raise money for important causes. Instead of letting him and his family fly to africas for a vacation. In 1974 we had a big defense budget cut but this is what the air force did to keep the Thunderbirds flying. Wow, awesome flying for 1974 for sure as far as seeing the coordination and timing now a days there is not much difference.

They were in T-38's I believe, up until they transitioned over to F-16's. This is what they were flying in '76-77, and I can tell you, absolutely not a boring airshow. That was the first time I saw them, at Pope AFB. These were extremely nimble aircraft, topped only by the F-16. Well, watch some video. You'll see.
