The tank sustained significant damage, but was recovered. Although not confirmed, it appears that the explosion was caused by a planted IED.http://www.apacheclips.com/boards/vbtube/images/play_thread.png (http://www.apacheclips.com/boards/media/4539-Syrian-Tank-Explodes-crew-survives)

It appears to me that the blast came from the right side BMP, maybe the IED was an EFP.

That tank driver, commander and crew have some balls. IED goes off right in front of them and they roll right up into the dust kicked up by the explosion. I don't think I would ever have said this, but they get some respect from me for that. Crazy.

I can see maybe the crew surviving with horrendous injuries, but I can't imagine the driver or commander staying in one piece. Frame by frame, it looks that an EFP went directly into the right side of the drivers compartment, and exited out the bottom near the left track. There's undoubtedly some serious carnage in that vehicle.

I disliked your comment only because the driver sits on the left, the engine is on the right. The weapon may very well have been an 'explosive formed penetrator' but apparently as this BMP-2 drives away on its own power, the damage was less than what you sensationalize.

That almost looked like an EFP to me, notice how most of the blast comes out of the front while there is minimal to the backside.
