BAGHDAD – During combined clearance operations, June 25, Iraqi Security Forces and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers seized an explosives cache in the Abu Ghraib area, west of Baghdad.

In a joint mission, Iraqi Soldiers from the 4th Battalion, 24th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, partnered with members of the 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, discovered a 5-gallon drum filled with three anti-tank grenades, seven anti-tank grenade heads, two anti-tank grenade handles, two un-fused hand grenades, ten-feet of detonating cord, one cannon simulator, eight mortar fuses and one mortar.

A Coalition explosive ordinance disposal team safely conducted a controlled detonation on the three complete anti-tank grenades; turning the rest of the cache over to the Iraqi army for investigation.

CAMP TAJI, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces and Soldiers from Multi-National Division — Baghdad discovered a massive weapons cache June 23, near Tarmiyah, Iraq.

Soldiers from 4th Battalion, 36th Iraqi Army Brigade, and U.S. troops with 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team seized the cache while conducting clearance operations in the vicinity of the village approximately 18 miles north of Baghdad.

The cache included 26 grenades; 35 RPGs; five IEDs with detonation devices; two anti-personnel mines; one suicide vest; one hundred rocket and mortar rounds and a mix of other ammunition, including thousands of small-arms rounds.

Iraqi and U.S. Soldiers also recovered base elements used to produce explosives, including military grade plastic explosives and the mechanisms for triggering them.
