I hate to be that guy, but T-80 and T-90 are 2 different tanks, designed by 2 different companies. ;)

The SAA is known to have a few different versions of T-72 tanks: T-72M, T-72M1, T-72AV, as well as other additions that are not standard. Such as the 'TRUMS' system, which provides upgraded fire-control and thermal optics for their older model T-72M/M1 tanks. But sensationalism sells better I suppose, than facts. But Syria operates no T-80 or T-90 tanks, also the T-90 is not an 'export' variant of the T-80. I just find this sort of thing interesting, so I do a little reading/research about these tanks, their origin, and design. Rather than just repeating little internet 'white-lies' over and over...

I went to this forum the guy being a former tanker showed these to pics the side port from the exhaust port is different then the t80 port is on the side of the 72 The periscopes are different a quote in what he said : T-80 series also have different road wheels, different turret, driver have 3 vision blocks not one, different is also cupola.
These photos should help to see the differences.
Frist one is the T72 AV the second pic is the T80 BV the 3rd pic is the T64 BV

T-80 was designed to fight on the western front. It's much better suited for conditions on the western front. It was also the first tank with Gas Turbine engine. However after collapse of USSR both company that designed it and factory that manufactured it stayed in Ukraine and as such its production ended.
While, and it's an IMHO, it was a better tank and design then T-90.

Pretty clear that this environment is hard on tanks. And what a dicey spot to put your tanks in, confined in a narrow street. Lots of opportunity, especially if one has advanced RPG rounds.
And does anyone wonder if, when this shit's over, there will be any kind of rebuilding effort?
