A hovering Apache is just one really big target to knock out of the sky. Plus, to have one on every patrol is not economically possible. With hundreds of daily patrols, each Apache costs $20M, add to that each bird has a wingman, that's $40M per patrol.

An Apache in the air is worth every penny. If it can take out the bad guys without our men getting hurt then its a winner. Terry Taliban usually run away when there is one in the sky saving men, ammo , javelin, grenades , law rockets and mortars. Plus the collateral damage is a lot lower. Money well spent my friend.
