A sailor serving on HMS Protector has been presented with a medal for 17 years service to the Royal Navy, in one of the most remote places on earth.

Leading Seaman Scott Black from Portchester, who also served on HMS Montrose and HMS Northumberland, was presented with the Long service and Good Conduct medal on an iceberg in Antarctica.

It was handed over by HMS Protector’s Commanding Officer Captain Peter Sparkes.
