I've been to every D-Day beach and if any of you gets the chance, go. My words alone cannot sum up the astonishing bravery and courage shown on June 6, 1944.
The opening clip of the film is of the Canadians going onto Juno. The house on the right still stands and is a museum.
As you probably guessed, the facts about the tanks are balls (one foot of water!!). At Omaha the U.S. launched their tanks too early and the bulk were swamped (only 2 made it I think) and this contributed to the carnage there.
Stephen Ambrose (Band of Brothers) wrote an excellent book on D-Day, worth picking up on e-bay.
