ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Elmendorf Air Force Base is losing its F-15 fleet.
Two dozen fighter jets are heading out of the base for good as the Air Force phases out the aging relics over the next year.
The Air Force says the change will free up money for other needed for other operations.
Col. Tom Bergeson says the decision will require some shuffling of about 500 personnel assigned to F-15 operations at Elmendorf.
Bergeson says many will be reassigned to other duties on base, such as F-22 Raptors, technologically advanced fighter jets.
