Same strategy that Gaddafi used in Libya, rely on loyalists (and in this case they are relying heavily on Iranian troops Hezzbolah etc), act like everything's going great for them, and try to convince everyone they are fighting against Al-qaeda not a uprising of there own people.

Well out of the hundreds/thousands of Combat videos I have still yet to see one Al-qeada flag in a real fight so obviously AQ isn't that influential in this conflict.

If you look at places like Yemen and Mali the rebels clearly display there AQ flags and don't even attempt to hide it.

Just remember all the misinformation you heard about Libya and what turned out in the end, despite there still being Muslims there they voted for democracy and freedom which can't be said about 90% of the rest of the middle east, and I am sure most people thought "WELL WE GONNA BE FIGHTEN THEM WHEN ITS OVER", which seems to be the usual thought stemming from Islamaphobia.
