Let me ask you this guys... at what stage would you say "fuck the footage" lets put the camera down and help the officer who's obviously struggling pulling his partner to safety and keeping control on the situation?

Just saying

EL CAJON, Calif. -- Just days after his wife filed for divorce, a man is suspected of killing his baby daughter and mother-in-law and shooting and critically wounding a police officer before setting the family's home on fire, police said.

A second body was found Monday in the burned-out home in El Cajon, a working class city east of San Diego, police spokesman Lt. Mark Coit said. It was believed to be the body of Beverly Rakov, 51, the mother-in-law of suspected gunman Kevin Collier. The other body found in the home Sunday night was believed to be that of Collier.

Coit said both bodies were burned beyond recognition so forensics tests would be needed for positive identification.

Collier is suspected of killing his baby daughter in his truck, then torching his home, in a dramatic series of events that ended with him critically wounding El Cajon Officer Jarred Slocum, 28.

Slocum remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound to his forehead that fractured his skull.

@To answer Stark I do not think i would have thought twice. I would have told the officer to give me cover and I will get him. When I see a person in deep trouble like that. I guess its in my upbringing I don't think of ramifications upon myself, I Just go and try to save people in trouble weather it be a fight or fire I had gotten hurt a few times but it was all worth it to see some one safe. Upbringing maybe My dad god rest his soul was the same way.

Could not take my eyes off screen all the time it was playing! Very hard to watch a LEO shot and trying to stay alive. I would have dropped that camera and helped but people do odd things in THE moment as we all know. Great post.......Thanks! ( Saying a prayer for the officer.)

A volley of gunfire (pop - pop - pop), an officer down. 28-year-old Jared Slocum shot in the head, seen clutching his neck.

(pop - pop - pop)

Though seriously injured, Slocum returned fire, unloading 2 rounds before backing away and stumbling to the ground.

His partner and 2 neighbors rushed to his aide. Slocum carried to safety.

"I could smell the gunfire - it was so rapid." Daniel Castro watched it all. "They were just going pop pop pop pop, right behind the cars. It was just like a movie. It was so surreal."

A 4 year veteran of the El Cajon Police Department, Slocum and his rookie partner were responding to a domestic violence call. Investigators say the suspect, Kevin Collier, killed his one year old daughter and mother in law before burning her home to the ground.

When police arrived on scene, they say Collier suddenly open fire.

His charred remains, investigators believe, were found inside the home.

"I'm confirming that the suspect had sent messages to friends and family that he had killed his mother in law and infant child."

Although critically injured, officer Slocum is expected to recover.

A young father and husband, lucky to be alive, determined to survive.

El Cajon is a shit neighborhood. This is one of the worst crimes Ive seen to come out of there. And those reporters were assholes for caring about their precious "emmy winning" footage before they would lift a finger to maybe help out an injured officer. Even if they were advised to get back they should of at least put the camera down out of respect and decorum.

Eris - I don't get it. You've become a member of a site which specialises in showing videos of the sort where people very often get shot. Sometimes they're not the bad guys.

Unless one of the TV crew was a trained para-medic (very unlikely) then what was the point in them stopping filming?

Thank god the cop survived.

CuChi I understand what you mean and you have a very good point but I don't think the local news channel should of won an Emmy for it and I happen to think that is all they were after. They could of given a shit less if that officer died.

I'm glad he didn't die as well.

Apacheclips brings you clips like these for entertainment and awareness.
The local news, while under the guise of information awareness, has agendas to meet and does it for profit.

I'm sorry if what I said upset you.

Based on my wartime service, I keep battlefield pressure dressings in my house and vehicle. They are super helpful when you need them....
I also am glad I didnt have to face my enemy with some bullshit handgun.

I really can't stand people who fire upon police officers. I have a special kind of hate for them. Not only do they constantly give you opportunities to give yourself up, but the very day you get out of prison they would answer your call in a time of need. What a waste of life

Eris, no problem mate, you didn't upset me! I just think the camera guys were doing their job.

And you're right, no way was that worth an Emmy. They just lucked out on being present, the footageas such isn't that brilliant at all.

Cheers.

What was the story here? That was pretty enlightening seeing the result of police work up close and on the spot, great post very glad the officer was ok and no one else got hurt, hopefully the bad guy got smoked in the fire.

There is so much wrong with this situation. Award winning video? I never saw so many fenders and tires in my life! The wounded officer should have been in a car and at the hospital in the first 3 minutes. The only aid given was from a hand holding citizen. Yeah, what about applying pressure to the wound?

Oh well, he survived and the vid crew got an award. In the end all is well. The bad guy... burn him out, Fuck Yeah!

Agreed, it looks as if there is a complete mental lock down going on. Able bodied officer should have moved up, had an aid pack out, and weapon drawn. Hope none of us have to endure such an event, but at least try to prepare if one arises. Read training and leadership for the fight, build an active shoot bag and be ready to do more than just stand there and "lockup"

I am so glad that Officer Slocum is ok. I'm with you Eriskillton on this one. I do understand that filming news stories is their job, understand completely but they didn't have to keep the camera on the Officer while he was laying on the ground gurgling and just wanting help to come. Sorry, I just don't think that was necessary. Neither was filming the dog hanging a dump either. I guess it's like when people slow down when there is a car accident trying to see shit rather than helping, it's that morbid curiosity that some folks have. At 6 and a half months pregnant in a MVA after going under a cattle truck I can at least on that front say there are more people that like to look than help. Morbid curiosity.
