Some of you may have known Jake on the main site as "SgtJake" and as "Buitenwerf Dash" on the facebook page. He was 15 years old and a member of the Canadian Air Cadets and we have been friends online and have talked for the past 3 years. He was a pretty cool kid and he had his act together more than anyone I know. All he wanted in life was to wear camo, shoot guns), and have fun.

Unfortunately, on Thursday June 14, 2012, he fell from an overpass into the street and was hit by a tractor trailor, and later died of his injuries. http://www.albertapolicereport.com/2012/06/14/fall-from-overpass-claims-life-of-15-year-old-calgarian/

They aren't sure what happened yet. Some people thought it was suicide, but everyone who knows him knows that he wouldn't do that, plus he had no reason to. He is the first friend that I have lost and even though I never really got to know who he was in real life, it feels like he was a close friend from the start. Post it on the frontpage if you would like, I am sure the family would love it. He was a huge military buff and loved this site. Thanks for all of the support for the family as well guys, you're all great

she said she will come on sometime and that she appreciates what Jake was interested in. She also told me that there is a memorial page for him now: https://www.facebook.com/groups/383915128324818/
do not feel obligated to join whatsoever, but if you would like to post a message for his friends and family, please do so. I think it would be great to include where you are from as well, so that they can see that people from around the world are supporting them. Thanks again guys

This is a real kick in the teeth. Although I didn't know Jake personally, I think most would agree, that we form genuine friendships here at Apacheclips; suffice to say that Jake has many friends here today who are thinking about him at this moment. My thoughts & prayers go out to his loved ones. Rest in peace Jake. This is a tragic loss of a young man with a bright future.

Jake's Mom thanks you all very much and loves how supportive you guys are :)

here is his obituary and the funeral arrangements http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/calgaryherald/obituary.aspx?n=jacob-buitenwerf&pid=158126881

as you can see, they will be holding it military style and attendees are encouraged to wear their finest camo clothing as Jake was highly interested in all of the different types of camo and especially liked flecktarn and multicam.

Again, thank you all for showing such great support to his friends and family, you guys are the best ;)

Wanted to post the video embed to make it a bit simpler for everyone. Truly nothing compares to losing a family member or friend it is only understood by those who go though it. RIP to this young hero and prayers for his family and friends who suffer now.

I dont tweet or do facebook, so if someone could post this on my behalf on the FB page Id appreciate it. Want to let the family know he had mates in Australia.

Dear Buitenwerf Family,

There is nothing I can say that will ease your pain. Its not your fault, its not anyone`s fault.

I hope one day that your grief is replaced by wonderful memories and you find some comfort in knowing that your son Jake achieved so much in his short life and that he had frieinds all over the world who will miss him and think of him often.

here is what his dad had to say:

Thank you for your kind words. Jake loved all things military. I knew he had some friends online, but I had no idea how many. Jake was an Air Cadet and the squadron is supporting us in the best way. He was good boy, and was going to be a very good man, destined for a military career, against my wishes. He walked to his own drum. We will miss him forever.

The poor little bloke has been laid to rest. RIP.

Google Jake, I gave up looking after 7 pages of Google search. This kid was in more things that salt and pepper. Huey must have needed someone smart, young, fearless and courageous for a special mission. Up there for a bit of retraining and he will be back in a flash.

To the organized mind, death is but the next great adventure..

One year has passed and it has been hard for everyone, they're have been many tears shed, and many memories missed. But since the 14th. We have grown as a family, as friends. And in general. To all jakes friends and family, you guys are the strongest people I know. To art and Trina, you guys have held this world together. And somehow managed to keep a smile on your face and help everyone, you guys are my family and you mean the world to us, thank you for being there whenever, and thank you hanny for being there, because you guys have the strength to carry on :) and jake would be soo proud of you.

Some people say life is only lent too us, and that might be true, but jake isn't gone. He's with us 24/7 and he's smiling, crying, and joking with all of us.

Death is no more than passing from one room into another. But there's a difference for me, you know. Because in that other room I he shall be able to see.

And one day well open the door. And see him.

RIP JAKE We here and AC shall never forget

Thank you, serpa, and the rest of the Apache crew. Trina has asked me to tell you all how much your support and the upkeep of this thread has meant to her and Art. Seeing the impact he had on so many people is just extraordinary and touching. He had somehow manage to accomplish more in 15 years than most people could hope for in 50.
