KABUL, Afghanistan (Nov. 6, 2011) — A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Haqqani network leader in Pul-e 'Alam district, Logar province, yesterday.

The leader directs roadside bomb and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the Khoshi and Pul-e 'Alam districts, Logar province, as well as, acquires weapons and improvised explosive devices for his network.

In Kandahar district, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol discovered a vehicle-born improvised explosive device after receiving a tip from a local civilian yesterday. The vehicle was packed with 500 pounds (227 kilograms) of explosives, which were defused and confiscated by the patrol. The force also detained multiple suspected insurgents while searching the surrounding area for additional explosive materials. The confiscated explosives will be destroyed at a later date.

A combined Afghan and coalition force discovered a store of munitions during a routine patrol in Qalat district, Zabul province, Friday. The cache contained 220 pounds (100 kilograms) of explosives and other bomb-making materials. The explosives and materials were removed by coalition forces and no civilians were injured during the operation.
