A GURKHA under investigation for beheading a Taliban gunman has been allowed back on normal duty.
The Nepalese soldier faced court martial after he returned to base with the enemy fighter’s head in a bag and presented it to senior officers.
He had decapitated the insurgent with his kukri machete, the traditional Gurkha weapon, during fierce fighting on the Afghan front line.

Royal Military Police investigated whether the gruesome killing in July last year was a war crime.
But they have ruled the Gurkha was fighting for his life.
He took the head to base in a misunderstanding over the need for DNA evidence.
A military source said: “It happened during the heat of battle. Thankfully, he has been returned to normal duties having had a question mark hanging over his future for quite some time. This particular Gurkha is a good soldier and has a good record.”
It is thought he did not have time to reload his rifle as his victim confronted him during a battle in Helmand.
