KABUL, Afghanistan (Oct. 7) — A combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol discovered a weapons cache in Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, today.
While conducting partnered operations, friendly forces observed an unknown explosion. After investigating the incident, it was determined that an insurgent was killed while trying to emplace an improvised explosive device.
Two suspected insurgents were detained during the investigation and nine more IEDs were seized by the security force for safe destruction at a later date.

South

In Zharay district, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol discovered a weapons cache. One suicide vest, one improvised explosive device, three rifles, one shotgun, and 16 anti-personnel mines were seized by the security force. Additionally, 1,100 pounds (500 kilograms) of hashish was seized during the operation. The weapons and drugs will be safely disposed of at a later date.
Finally, in Musa Qal’ah district, Helmand province today, a coalition patrol discovered and seized a weapons cache consisting of 800 7.62 mm rounds, one 105 mm artillery shell and several IED making materials.
