KABUL, Afghanistan (Sept. 29, 2011) – A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two Taliban leaders during a security operation in Ghorak district, Kandahar province, Wednesday.

One captured leader provided guidance in attack planning and coordinated roadside bomb attacks with area leaders, as well as, reported to senior Taliban leadership following organized attacks against Afghan forces. The second insurgent leader operated as a Taliban appointed judge in Ghorak district.

The combined force seized multiple weapons and destroyed 400 pounds (181 kgs) of heroin during the operation.

Additionally, multiple suspected insurgents were also detained during the operation.

In other International Security Assistance Force news throughout Afghanistan:

North

In Balkh district, Balkh province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator during a security operation yesterday. The facilitator provided supplies to insurgent fighters and organized attacks against Afghan forces in the Balkh province. The security force detained one additional suspected insurgent during the operation.

East

Lastly, in Muhhamad Aghah district, Logar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted a security operation in search of a Taliban leader yesterday. The leader coordinates and conducts attacks against Afghan government officials, as well as, plans car bomb attacks in the region. The security force also detained one suspected insurgent during the operation.

KABUL, Afghanistan (Sept. 29, 2010) – A combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol killed an insurgent leader during an operation in Mahmud-e Raqi district, Kapisa province, yesterday.

The insurgent leader was killed while engaging Afghan and coalition forces with small arms fire.

The insurgent leader is a known facilitator of improvised explosive devices and is directly responsible for supplying lethal aid used in attacks against ANSF and coalition forces.

The operation seized one high explosive grenade, one AK-47, four rocket propelled grenades, two anti-personnel mines and a quantity of small arms. The weapons were safely destroyed on site.

In other International Security Assistance Force news throughout Afghanistan:

South

A combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol detained several insurgents and seized a narcotics cache during an operation in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, yesterday. The operation seized 1,764 pounds (800 kilograms) of dry opium. The drugs were safely destroyed on site. The insurgents were detained and taken in for processing and further questioning.

In Baghran district, Helmand province yesterday, a combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol seized a narcotics cache during an operation. The operation seized 1,424 gallons (5,391 liters) of morphine solution, 6,085 pounds (2,760 kgs) of sodium carbonate, 4,762 pounds (2,160 kgs) of ammonium chloride, three drug presses and seventy-five 55 gallon (208 litres) barrels, a tractor, and three motorcycles. The drugs were safely destroyed on site.

East

A combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol discovered a weapons cache during an operation in Pul-E Lam district, Logar province yesterday. The operation seized five rocket propelled grenade rounds, nine recoilless rifle rounds, 92 mortar charges, 126 fuses and a quantity of small arms ammunition. The weapons cache was safely destroyed on site.
