KABUL, Afghanistan (Sep. 22, 2011) – A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent and seized a narcotics cache during an operation in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, Wednesday..The operation seized 1,212 pounds (550 kgs) of wet opium, 22 pounds (10 kgs) of dry opium, a quantity of drug processing equipment and one motorcycle. The drugs were safely destroyed on site and the suspected insurgent was detained for further questioning.
a child sustained injuries to the leg during the operation and was transported to a coalition medical treatment facility for care. The child’s injuries are not life threatening.

In Doshi district, Baghlan province, a coalition security force discovered a weapons cache today. The cache consisted of three 120mm mortars, two 155mm artillery shells, and eight hand grenades. The weapons were secured for destruction at a later date.
South
A coalition security force discovered a weapons cache in Musa Qalah district, Helmand province, today. The cache consisted of three rocket-propelled grenade warheads, 10 anti-personnel mines, three sticks of dynamite, four bags of aluminium powder, multiple blasting caps, five improvised explosive devices, three pounds of homemade explosives, two pen flares and five shotgun shells. Some of the items were transported to a coalition base while the remaining materials were safely destroyed.
In Sangin district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained a suspected insurgent leader during an operation yesterday. The insurgent leader is a known improvised explosives device expert and facilitator responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The suspected insurgent leader was detained for further questioning.
