KABUL, Afghanistan (July 26, 2011) – A combined Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force stopped a vehicle during a security operation in Reg-e Khan Neshin district, Helmand province, yesterday.
Upon searching the vehicle, the force discovered and seized 2,205 pounds (1,000 kgs) of heroin, 2,205 (1,000 kgs) of ammonium nitrate, one AK-47 rifle and two rocket-propelled grenades. All items were safely destroyed on site.
Four men were detained as a result of the operation, and were taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.

A combined and coalition patrol stopped a vehicle during a separate security operation in Garm Ser district, Helmand province, yesterday. Upon searching the vehicle, the force discovered and seized1,190 pounds (540 kgs) of opium. The narcotics were safely destroyed on site. Four men were detained as a result of the operation, and were taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.
In Marejeh district, Helmand province, today, a coalition patrol discovered and seized a weapons cache consisting of 800 7.62 mm rounds. All rounds were safely destroyed by a coalition explosive ordnance disposal team.
