KABUL, Afghanistan (June 11, 2011) – A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed Sayed Rahman, a Haqqani network facilitator during a security operation in Sabari district, Khost province, yesterday.
Rahman assisted roadside bomb and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He had moved multiple weapons for insurgents in the district, including anti-aircraft machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. Additionally, he was involved in attack planning targeting an Afghan security checkpoint.
Following extensive intelligence reports, the Afghan-led force tracked Rahman to his compound. The force noticed Rahman, armed with an AK-47 rifle, attempting to escape capture. The security force located him and an engagement ensued, resulting in his death.
Completing the search, the force detained two suspected insurgents and confiscated an additional AK-47. Throughout the night search the security force protected the women and children.

In Archi district, Kunduz province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban facilitator yesterday. The facilitator works with Taliban leaders in Archi to facilitate the movement of weapons and explosive-device components, as well as being actively involved in attack planning.
The security force searched for the facilitator at his suspected compound. The force interviewed residents about Taliban activity in the area and after questioning, several suspected insurgents were detained. No civilians were harmed during the operation.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator and one of his associates during an overnight security operation in Zharay district, Kandahar province, yesterday. The facilitator was involved with weapons procurement from Pakistan and also provided materials for suicide attacks.
The Afghan-led security force tracked the facilitator to a compound where they began their search by isolating the compound. After an Afghan member of the force called for occupants to exit, the security force ensured the safety of the women and children. The force searched the area and interviewed residents, identifying and detaining the facilitator and one of his associates for further questioning. No shots were fired during the operation.
In Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security operation in Kajaki district, yesterday. The Afghan-led security force was in the district searching for a Taliban facilitator who provides logistical support to insurgents throughout northern Helmand.
The two individuals were detained when the force searched the suspected compound of the facilitator and surrounding area. One individual was identified as he attempted to evade the force and the other was detained at the compound. Several explosive-device components were found on the premises. Throughout the night search, the force ensured the safety of the women and children.
Also in Helmand, a combined Afghan and coalition force detained a suspected insurgent leader during an operation in Lashkar Gah district, yesterday. The suspect was believed to direct insurgents in attacks against Afghan security forces and facilitated the resupply of weapons and explosives. The suspect and several other men were detained during the operation and taken for processing and further questioning.
In Garm Ser district of Helmand, a combined Afghan and coalition forces patrol found and destroyed 1,146 pounds (520 kilograms) of dry opium during a search.
A coalition security force patrol discovered an explosive cache in Shorabak district, Kandahar province, yesterday. The cache consisted of 30 bags filled with ammonium nitrate weighting approximately 2,976 pounds (1,350 kgs). The explosives were safely destroyed by the security force.

The targeted leader is in charge of a large group of fighters who are involved in roadside bomb, car bomb and direct attacks against Afghan security forces.
The security force searched the leader’s suspected compound where they encountered several suspected Haqqani operatives. After interviews with residents, two suspected insurgents were detained. The night search was completed with no shots fired and no civilians harmed.
