KABUL, Afghanistan (June 10, 2011) – A combined Afghan and coalition force seized a large quantity of narcotics in Khash Rod district, Nimroz province, yesterday.
The operation seized 1,653 pounds (750 kilograms) of wet opium, 11,023 pounds (5,000 kgs) of sodium carbonate, 13,228 pounds (6,000 kgs) of ammonium chloride and 50 barrels of other chemicals used in the production of narcotics.
The goal of the operation was to disrupt insurgent storage facilities associated with the processing of narcotics. Three men were detained during the operation and taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.
The narcotics and chemicals were safely destroyed on site.

A combined Afghan and coalition force killed several insurgents during a five-day security operation in Sangin district, Helmand province.
Several insurgents were killed during the operation when they engaged the patrol with heavy small-arms fire.
During the operation, the patrol found and seized four completed improvised explosive devices, six pressure plates, a quantity of homemade explosives, various other IED components and three AK-47 rifles.
In Maiwand district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition force discovered a drug cache today.
The cache consisted of 154 pounds (70 kgs) of opium. During the operation, the combined forces also seized 1,000,000 in Pakistani rupees (approximately 11,660 U.S. dollars), one vehicle, one motorcycle and one cell phone.
Several insurgents were detained by security forces.

An ISAF patrol discovered a weapons cache during a security operation in Kahmard district, Bamyan province, today.
The cache consisted of 14 grenades, 26 grenade fuses, two 82 mm mortar grenades and 21 mortar grenade fuses.
All the weapons were seized by security forces
