KABUL, Afghanistan (June 8, 2011) – A combined Afghan and coalition force, successfully recovered explosives and materials used to make an improvised explosive device in Tsamows Kol Village, Qal’ah-ye Zal district, Kunduz province, yesterday.

The combined force conducted a clearing operation to remove IED materials from the area. The security forces became aware of the materials after receiving reports from villagers.

The security forces destroyed the explosives and found detonation material. The loss of detonators will significantly reduce the insurgents’ ability to terrorize the local populace, said an ISAF team member.

No civilian casualties or property damage were reported.

South

An Afghan and coalition force patrol discovered a weapons cache consisting of 15 rocket-propelled grenades in Zharay district, Kandahar province, today.

All the weapons were safely destroyed by security forces.

In Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, a coalition force, discovered a weapons cache during a security operation, today.

The cache consisted of two AK-47 rifles, six full AK-47 magazines, 1,600 7.62 mm rounds, one feeding plate for a machine gun and one chest rig.

All the items were confiscated by security forces.

East

A combined Afghan and coalition force, successfully recovered an IED, detained a known IED facilitator and stopped a planned attack on personnel working for coalition forces, in Gardez City, Paktiya province, yesterday.

The combined force conducted a mounted operation to detain known IED facilitators and remove IED materials from the area.

No civilian casualties or property damage were reported.
