KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and coalition force conducting a security operation discovered a weapons cache in Charkh district, Logar province, June 1.

The cache consisted of 28 AK-47’s, 112 AK-47 magazines, three rocket-propelled grenade launchers, eight RPGs, 10 RPG boosters and 1,000 rounds of machine gun ammunition.

In other International Security Assistance Force news throughout Afghanistan:

North

An Afghan and coalition force recovered a remote controlled improvised explosive device at a possible remote-controlled improvised explosive device training facility in Khanabad district, Kunduz province, June 2.

The combined force was searching for an insurgent when they discovered the RCIED and the possible training facility. The RCIED was likely prepared for imminent use, but was successfully removed from the premise by the combined force prior to detonation.

No civilian casualties or structural damage were reported.

East

A combined Afghan and coalition force discovered a weapons cache, June 2, in Ghazni district, Ghazni province, consisting of 320 12.7 mm machine gun rounds and 331 pounds (150 kgs) of explosives.

During the security operation two insurgents were detained by security forces.

In Gelan district, Ghazni province, an Afghan and coalition force killed several insurgents during a security operation, June 2.

Based on recent reports of insurgent attacks, the combined Afghan and coalition force conducted a search and clearing operation in the area. The combined force received small-arms and rocket propelled grenade fire from a building nearby.

The combined team responded to the attack with close air support, killing several insurgents.

No civilian casualties were reported during this operation.

All weapons and explosive materials have been or will be destroyed by the security forces.
