Fort Bragg, N.C. — Fort Bragg paid tribute Thursday to 30 Army Special Operations soldiers who have died in the past year in the war on terrorism.

"These are men who responded to a different voice," Lt. Gen. John Mulholland, of the Army Special Operations Command, said.

The names were added to a redesigned Fallen Special Operations Soldier Memorial Wall at Fort Bragg that is in tribute to more than 1,100 Army Special Operations soldiers since the Vietnam War.

Former presidential candidate Ross Perot, actor Gary Sinise and others attended the ceremony. They declined interviews, saying the real stars are those on the wall.

More than 300 Special Operations soldiers have died in combat since 2001.

FAYETTEVILLE -- A Fayetteville woman is showing her appreciation for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice this Memorial Day weekend by putting crosses and flags in her front yard.

Barbara Morris has 363 crosses in her yard, one for each Fort Bragg soldier killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. This is the third year Morris has put the crosses in her yard as a tribute to the military.

"They didn't just give their life for just being there, they went there voluntarily to keep us free and we got to respect that and not let people forget about that," she said.

With Memorial Day approaching many visited the memorial on Saturday. For local military members, it means the most.

"This is amazing. This is beautiful," said Army Sgt. Dave Seppelt. "What they've done here is amazing."

Morris will keep the crosses in the yard for two more weeks and next year it will move to a nearby church.
