Yep, Tsar tank developed in Russia in 1916-1917. 1 prototype, and it got stuck when tested due to the small rear wheel which would get stuck in ditches, or soft dirt. Tank stayed where it was tested until later disassembled and used as scrap.

This one took me a while to research, but I believe it is a round for a Pfeifer Zeliska revolver. The round specifically is a .600 Nitro Express.

Interesting facts I learned:
1) Pfeifer Zeliska revolver is the largest handgun in the world weighing just over 13 pounds. Oddly enough, the weight is what makes this gun 'manageable to fire' since it helps control the recoil.
2) The .600 Nitro Express is the largest dangerous game pistol caliber and was used in the heyday of African Ivory hunts, not as a primary weapon, but as an emergency weapon in case of a missed shot and the animal charged the hunter.
3) It has a big brother called the .700 Nitro Express
4) The youtube videos of people shooting these rounds are priceless...

The big ass round is a .600 nitro express round and the pistol is a 44 mag QSPR, the pistol was developed for the tunnel rats in vietnam and could fire shotgun'ish rounds but the good old geneva convention put a stop to it.

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=409103.0;attach=67 9354;image

task 1 is to give me the general idea of what it is.

HINT- it was/is explosive

okay, and the reason i needed to post it now, is that it is someone's that i know and he wanted to know if it is inert or not. i told him that it most likely is, because it is colored blue, but he was nervous so i told him i would have someone confirm it

06-26-2011, 07:28 PM
Just because its blue does not mean inert.
After some digging, thats a aerial dispersed bomblet known as a "Blu 26'...
My advice, put it somewhere safely away from people and get hold of your local eod. It may or may not be inert, but your better off safe than sorry.

This is something that they have in a glass case and have not been able (or willing) to tell me exactly what it is and of course....major bummer...they wont sell it to me either. I wanted to put it inside the battle beast '79 Dodge M880 (currently undergoing restoration) But seriously I thought if anyone could find out what this thing really is it would be you cats here. Super cheating is allowed. Sorry about the picture quality but I always conveniently forget my good cam, and only have my cellphone. Next time I go back I will try and get a better pic. Not so much what is it, but what is it meant to go to and how old is it.

Info: The round is 9 inches long, 2.5 inches at the base, and the maximum girth is roughly 2.75 inches. No visible fuse lines on the top. Also had some possible evidence of rifling on the round itself.

I am curious about this because this is what was found this morning in a guys house in town. They contacted the armory, and seeing as I'm a 13B they called me to come take a look at it and see if I thought it was inert. I told them I could tell them if it was a 155mm or a 105mm but not a little ole 3 inch shell from lord knows when. We sent the pictures to EOD and are awaiting their response. Anywho the blue line on it at first made me think it could be a training round, then though I took a close look and it almost looks like oxidized copper banding, which would make me think it could be a live round.

Here it is.

Looks like pieces of shrapnel? I'm not a shrapnel expert though. Maybe from a grenade or something like that

Right on! Pieces of shrapenal I dug out of my truck after we got hit, there were some larger pieces but I gave those to the gunner and my TC. Largest piece was about 1in to an inch and a quarter long, he dug that out of the the hell fights on his .50. EOD said it was a 155mm round, left overs from the initial invasion. The little brown piece on the bottom piece is a chunk of my fuel can, the shrapenel melted to the plastic.

Right on! Pieces of shrapenal I dug out of my truck after we got hit, there were some larger pieces but I gave those to the gunner and my TC. Nice :) Glad you're all okay, and it's nice to see the story behind it.

Eris- I am going to say that the howitzer is a M101 from the Vietnam era. 105mm and a predecessor of the M119. Not 100% possitve though. Plus I've never seen a brace go across the back of a howitzer like that, strange and interesting.
