KABUL, Afghanistan (May 1, 2011) – A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator and one suspected insurgent during a security operation in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, yesterday.

The facilitator was a senior Taliban fighter who had conducted multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also assists the terrorist network with the acquisition and movement of weapons from Pakistan into Afghanistan for insurgents in his group.

The security force searched for the facilitator at a compound in the district based on multiple intelligence tips. After isolating the compound, the force called for all occupants to exit the buildings. The occupants complied with the request and the force commenced their search.

After completing their search, the force questioned the residents. During questioning, the facilitator identified himself to the force and was subsequently apprehended. One individual with suspected ties to Taliban insurgency was also detained during the search for further questioning.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator during a security operation in Khwajah ‘Omari district, Ghazni province, yesterday. The facilitator was responsible for assisting and aiding in the purchase of mortars and indirect fire equipment for insurgents.

Intelligence tips led the force to search for the facilitator at a compound in the district. The force secured the area and had all occupants exit the building before beginning their search. During their search the force discovered a mortar site, a rifle and pistols. The force questioned the individual on scene and then detained him after discovering he was the targeted individual. No shots were fired during the operation.

In Khost province, a combined Aghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Haqqani network leader during a security operation in Sabari district, yesterday. The leader directs the coordination and facilitation of explosive device, suicide vest and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

Multiple intelligence sources and tips from citizens led the security force to target two compounds within the district. During the search of the initial compound, the force discovered multiple rifles and AK-47s. After questioning residents, the force detained two individuals with suspected ties to Taliban insurgency for further questioning.

At a nearby location the force searched another compound. The force isolated the area and had all occupants exit the premises. They cleared the area and conducted interviews with residents. Based on the interviews, one suspected insurgent was detained for further questioning. Both operations were completed with no shots fired.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator and one suspected insurgent during a security operation in Baraki Barak district, Logar province, yesterday. The facilitator collected taxes for the terrorist network and was responsible for supplying weapons and money to insurgents.

Numerous intelligence tips indicating insurgent activity in the area led the security force to the facilitator’s suspected compound in the district. The force secured and cleared the area. The insurgent facilitator identified himself to the force during initial questioning and was immediately detained along with one of his associates for further questioning. No shots were fired during the operation.
