"Factor in all your costs before dumping that gas guzzler."
is the title of the long and complete article on why it is not necessarily a good idea to follow President Obama's advice to the guy with the big SUV. Watch the video, but definitely read the article.

The reality is....it costs less to keep the gas guzzler!

Not to mention where you live. I own a pick up, no real need for it except for one feature. 4 Wheel drive. Living in central Minnesota in a city of 6700, with surrounding 4 towns equating to 1000 people, it is pretty damn tough to get around in the middle of winter when there's 10 inches of snow on the road. I don't know how many of the new hybrids and smaller vehicles I saw in ditches or stuck in their driveways this past winter. I am all for fuel economy and saving when able, but wasting your money on something that won't get you to work isn't worth it. There was a guy from Alabama that moved up here and bitched out almost everyone with a truck or larger SUV, saying we didn't need those vehicles for anything. After getting fired from his job in mid winter, simply cause he couldn't get to work 15 days that winter he quickly appologized and moved back to Alabama.
