HONOLULU — The military plans to remove a Marine Corps helicopter that crashed in Kaneohe Bay last week by cutting it into pieces and using another helicopter to lift it in sections.
Navy divers from Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One have been removing smaller pieces of the Sea Stallion, which crashed in shallow water, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Wednesday.
Divers plan to cut the rest of the helicopter into two or three large sections, which then will be lifted from the sandbar.
The downed aircraft will be taken to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, where an investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
A Marine died and three were injured March 29 when the helicopter went down during routine training
