KABUL, Afghanistan (March 31, 2011) – International Security Assistance Force discovered a large narcotics cache during a clearing operation in southern Afghanistan, today.

In Helmand province, an ISAF patrol found a narcotics cache in Reg-e Khan Neshin district consisting of 1,600 pounds (725 kilograms) of marijuana.

The drugs cache was confiscated and has been destroyed.

South

In Helmand and Kandahar provinces, during separate clearing operations, Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF patrols found large weapons and improvised explosive device-making components caches in Marjah and Arghandab districts, today.
The caches consisted of 500 7.62 mm rounds, 12 82 mm mortar rounds, two IEDs, several blasting caps, homemade explosives and 40 pressure plates.

East

In Kunar province, an ISAF patrol discovered several weapons caches in Marawarah district, today. The caches consisted of one pistol, nine rocket-propelled grenade rounds, one RPG launcher, one RPG booster, 1,500 7.62 mm rounds, one mine, four recoilless rifle rounds, two rifles and four hand-grenades.

The weapons and IED-making components from all the finds caches were confiscated and have been or will be destroyed.
