KABUL, Afghanistan (March 30, 2011) – International Security Assistance Force killed numerous insurgents during a clearing operation in eastern Afghanistan, today.

An ISAF air weapons team supporting ground forces declared an imminent threat on numerous armed insurgents in Sar Kani district, Kunar province. After gaining positive identification, the air weapons team engaged the enemy position killing the insurgents.

There were no civilian casualties or collateral damages reported as a result of this operation.

In other ISAF news throughout Afghanistan:

South

In Helmand province, during separate clearing operations, coalition forces discovered two large narcotics caches in Nad’ali and Regh-e Khan Neshin districts, today. The caches consisted of 800 pounds (362 kilograms) of hashish and 1,200 pounds (544 kg) of resin glands of cannabis, or keef.

In Reg-e Khan Neshin district, an ISAF patrol found a weapons and chemicals cache consisting of 1,700 7.62 mm rounds, 5,000 .50 caliber rounds, three improvised explosive devices and 150 pounds (68 kg) of homemade explosives.

East

In Paktika, Kunar, Wardak and Laghman provinces, Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF found several weapons, chemicals and IED-making components caches in Zarghun Shahr, Marawarah, Maidan Shahr and Mehtar Lam districts. The caches consisted of one gun, two AK-47s, four sniper rifles, 3,500 7.62 mm rounds, 26 boxes of 12.7 mm rounds, 11 82 mm mortar rounds, two 60 mm mortar rounds, 200 grenades, 30 fuses, 12 anti-personnel mines, eight anti-tank mines, 21 rocket-propelled grenade rounds, four RPG boosters, 15 Afghan National Army uniforms and 1,650 pounds (748 kg) of unknown bulk explosives and several loose IED-making components.

The weapons, drugs and chemicals from all provinces were confiscated and have been or will be destroyed.
