KABUL, Afghanistan (March 16, 2011) – International Security Assistance Force killed several armed insurgents during an offensive operation early this morning in Shigal wa Sheltan district, Kunar province.
Coalition forces observed insurgents at two locations moving into fighting positions carrying weapons at about 3:30 a.m. and again at 5:30 a.m. As the insurgents moved toward the coalition forces they were killed by an air weapons team.
All rounds were reported on target. There were no reports of injuries to civilians in the area or damages to property.

South
Afghan and coalition forces killed several insurgents during an operation in Kajaki and Musa Qal’ah district, Helmand province, yesterday.
During operations, radio communications revealed that insurgents were planning an attack on Afghan and coalition security forces. The insurgent’s location was identified by the combined security force, and was engaged, resulting in several insurgents killed.
During three separate combined operations in Kandahar and Helmand province today several caches were found.
In Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province a cache consisting of three rocket-propelled grenades, one RPG booster, 20 hand grenades and one victim operated improvised explosive device was recovered by combined Afghan and coalition security forces. In Arghandab district a separate combined security force patrol discovered a weapons cache consisting of 11 pressure plates, 15 bags of ball bearings, two remote controls, seven receivers, five jugs filled with homemade explosive materials and several improvised explosive device components.
In Marjah district, Helmand province Afghan and coalition forces discovered a drugs cache consisting of 25 15 pound (7 kilograms) bags of opium today.
East
In Qarah Bagh district, Ghazni province combined Afghan and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache yesterday. The cache consisted of two rocket propelled grenades, two 107 mm rockets, four mortar rounds and two 66 pound (30 kilograms) barrels filled with homemade explosives.
