I thought Id make this thread and during the next week or so, will post some pics and tell some yarns from the show.

Im downloading pics now, wont get time to do much tonight, but will do tomorrow night and Monday.

So headend down on the Piper Chieftain, 8 of us and flight time was 16 minutes thanks very much. had prime position on the flightline at 8.30am. Plonked me chair down and left it to go meet the bloke I was hiring the camera and lens from. No dramas there, checked me seat, no dramas thereso off to see the boys from the US.

I went up to see the B52, KC-135, and MH90R from the USS Shoup. I was early and the boys had not set up their shop yet, but I made a point of gretting each bloke, shaking their hand and thanking them for their service. I didnt spot any service women, so that makes this easier to type.

The blokes from the Shoup were all dead keen to get home, they said so and you could tell how much getting home after a long deployment means to them, I wish them smooth seas and fair weather. The B52 blokes were busy cracking jokes at the B1 boys whose a/c went u/s. "ohh go and ask em why they cant fly" "At least we can actually get off the ground" "Go ask em if they are ready to serve" etc, it was a hoot. The C17 boys were bigger than anyone else "downunder". The KC135 crews "pumped more than anyone else" and one girl in the crowd asked if they could "deliver a good load after all that pumping" you had to be there.

None of these a/c flew, but they all gotta fly out sometime, I might try and get a flight down on Monday.

I then got in me chair and worled the lens hard for you blokes. The only US plane to fly was the F16, that put on a good, short show in perfect conditions. The show was really ruined by the display line being so far away it was a joke, never seen it like that before, must have been at least 500 metres for the jets. The farmers and cows got a better look.

Anyways, I headed up to the US F22s, Busted B1 and C130 fr a quick peek just before I left. Managed to snag the last medium size 525th tshirt, whew. But at $30 bucks, those raptors are thieves. Al the other units, 20 or 25 bucks. Im writing the secretary of defense about these rogues, and the fact that you can send 2 F22s, and all the other stuff and not fly for good ole Aussie.

I thanked a few of the blokes up this other end and had to head back to the grass strip for my flight. The C17 was open for the tens of thousands of fans to walk through, ours had to piss off early to NZ to help with the earthquake relief.

Oh yeah, they drove your good ole boys down the flightline, whereupon I gave them the time honored Aussie cheer of Salute "Show us your tits" that got a few strange looks from the crowd let alone the yanks, and "Get a fucking taliban for me!" that got a hearty thumbs up from all your blokes.

Today was good, the B1 was up and running! The Raptors leave at 9am tomorrow morning, 16 hours after the show finished. God only knows why. Some say its because we have signed up to the F35, which flies like an old shoe, and the Yanks dont want us to see how good the F22 is in comparison!

Lots more "get a taliban for me" today. Sadly one bloke from 525 F22 Sqn outta Alaska looked at me like I was mad. I shoulda taken his name. If you think that was bad, shoulda seen the looks I got when I said "Gday cutie, dont ask dont tell!" to a few of your blokes, they didnt know whether to shit, spew or go blind!

The KC10 flew in this morning, it was parked yesterday, maybe it went on an op? who knows.

Here is one of your boys, whose name is visible so it wouldnt be fair to have any fun, but can you guess who he was talking to? seems very keen! That tongue looks keen.

I dont need to tell you, but I will. You should be extremely proud of the manner in which your servicemen conduct themselves when they are here. They are all a credit to their parents and their country. We are all proud to call the US an ally. Its very important for the non informed, the Oprah and Jerry generation to be able to speak to these men in such an open an honest way. As an aside, a quote from another forum commenting on todays action.

Small boy: Is that Starscream?
US Pilot: This one right here? No. But that one just over there is but don't tell any one!

Our Rhino took off and went u/s as soon as it was airborne and landed. Also I have seen our Wedgetail AWACS for at least 5 years and never seen it fly. So its worse than the F22s. I am told its still not operational, but why cant we see it fly?

BTW it is a Canon 5D with a 70-200mm lems with a 1x4 extender that I hired for the show. It was grreat, but you are looking into the sun all day, so hard for anything really.

The arse end of the F22 taken under the wing of the B1, complete with Cop car spoiling the view. Fido the personal RAAF Dog of the F22s was asleep in the shade at the time. OK I made that up, it was patrolling like a demon at all times. Never had such security at an airshow for an a/c before. Poor thing, looks like it is from the old dogs home, but dont be fooled, it can sniff out a taliban in a crowd. I was kinda hoping for armed Marines, that would have been good, its an honour for a foreign national to have the right to bear arms in Australia, but between the fun police and the politicians, we got no chance.

Excellent camera. Did you shoot the images in RAW format? If so, you might get more sharpness out of it.

Great angle on the B1 and Raptor. The Raptor really looks aggressive.

Do you have more pictures? I like to see them.

Thanks for sharing.

The B1 went to depart monday, nose wheel was stuck down, had to dump a full load of fuel over the bay before landing to get fixed. Just wait till the B52 boys find out., finally both B1s left for Darwin on Tuesday.

Another quote from the B52 crew re B1 "WE will be escorting them to the Boneyard real soon".
