KABUL, Afghanistan – An improvised explosive device detonated near a motorcycle in Nad ‘Ali district, 9805Helmand province, killing one civilian female and injuring four other civilians, including three children.

Coalition forces responded to the scene of the blast to assist the wounded and also conducted a shura with local elders.

South
A joint Afghan National Security and ISAF patrol targeted a Taliban leader and an associate in Musa Qal’ah district, Helmand province, Jan. 30.

Two insurgents were killed and three men were detained during the operation.

One of the targets is suspected of serving as an illegitimate governor in Musa Qal’ah and facilitating and directing improvised explosive device and small arms attacks against Afghan security forces and ISAF. The other target is allegedly involved in supplying weapons and IED materials in Musa Qal’ah for use against Afghan and coalition forces.

An ISAF patrol in the Arghandab district of Kandahar province discovered a weapons cache consisting of 177 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 11 82 mm recoilless rifle rounds, 10 rocket-propelled grenade heat rounds, five assault vests, three anti-personnel mines, command wire, boosters, one-gallon jug of homemade explosive and various other ammunition, electronics and components.

In Chorah district, Uruzgan province, a combined patrol discovered a 107 mm improvised explosive device in an aqueduct wall, along with 160 AK-47 rounds.

A combined patrol in Sangin district, Helmand province found a weapons cache consisting of eight hand grenades, four pressure plates and four main charges.

While on patrol in the Marjah district of Helmand province, an Afghan and ISAF patrol discovered a weapons cache consisting of 100 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, five RPG motors, a 50-poung jug of homemade explosives and various other components.

An Afghan Border Police and ISAF operation discovered 550 pounds (250 kilograms) of hashish in a compound in Reg-e Khan Neshin district, Helmand province.

ANSF and ISAF forces found two drug caches during a combined dismounted patrol in Panjwa’i district consisting of 15 bags or approximately 40 pounds (18 kg) of marijuana seeds and 100 pounds (45.3 kg) of unrefined hashish.
East

A combined patrol in Zurmat district, Paktiya province discovered a cache consisting of 200 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one machine gun, five grenade bodies, one 155 mm round and four RPGs.
West

During a vehicle interdiction mission in Farah district, Farah province, more than 10 insurgents were detained and 38,580 pounds (17,500 kg) of nitrogen fertilizer, 170 gallons (640 liters) of diesel fuel, Pakistani and Afghan currency was confiscated.

The weapons, drugs and IED-making components and chemicals from all the provinces were confiscated and have been or will be destroyed.
