War in Afghanistan News reports provided by ISAF Joint Command. Operations are reported in the following provinces: Kandahar, Paktika, Khost, Badghis and Helmand.
Sadly insurgents have again taken their fight to the children of Afghanistan.....
Found: anti-personnel mines, mortar rounds, anti-aircraft rounds, artillery rounds, medical supplies, 9716small-arms, IED components and red phosphorus.....

Air weapons teams supported coalition forces in killing numerous insurgents and detaining numerous others during separate clearing and security operations In Sar Kunar District, Kunar province, Marjah and Nahr-e Saraj Districts, Helmand province over the past 24 hours.

Acting on multiple intelligence reports and tips from local citizens, patrols found weapons and IED-making caches in Uruzgan, Helmand and Kandahar provinces. Among the items found were anti-personnel mines, mortar rounds, anti-aircraft rounds, artillery rounds, medical supplies, small-arms, IED components and red phosphorus. The combined patrol also detained one suspected insurgent related to the caches, who was taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.
Kandahar Province
An Afghan National Police patrol spotted one insurgent emplacing an improvised explosive device in Kandahar District, Kandahar province. After gaining positive identification, Afghan National Police engaged the enemy position with small-arms fire, killing the insurgent.
Paktika Province
During an ISAF patrol, coalition forces detained numerous suspected insurgents in Ziruk District, Paktika province. Based on initial questioning at the scene and his involvement in insurgent activities, coalition forces confirmed that one of the detainees was the shadow governor for the Zerok area and was reportedly carrying 1 million Pakistan rupees (approximately $11,800).
Khost Province
UPDATE: The International Security Assistance Force confirmed an insurgent died at an ISAF medical facility today from wounds received after engaging in a firefight with coalition forces during an operation in Khost province Jan. 21.
The man was one of two armed combatants who were injured during the operation. Both received on-scene medical care from a coalition medical technician and then were evacuated for further medical attention. The deceased insurgent had been under medical treatment at the ISAF medical facility since the medical evacuation.
Afghan and coalition forces were searching for a Haqqani Network facilitator who operates in Sabari District of Khost province and has direct ties with other Haqqani Network leaders in the province. He directly facilitates the movement of improvised explosive devices, mortars and various other weapons across the district. Recent reporting indicates he was in possession of multiple weapons and IEDs he planned to transport and store at another insurgent’s location.
Badghis Province
Coalition forces were notified by villagers in Qades District, Badghis province, that an Afghan boy was shot and killed by insurgents Jan. 23.
Special Operations Forces learned of the incident during a key leader engagement with local villagers.
SOF members investigated the location where the incident had reportedly occurred and confirmed that a 10-year-old boy had been killed.
The incident occurred on the same day that indirect fire, employed by insurgents in Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, killed two Afghan children and wounded four.
Helmand Province
ISAF confirmed an air strike targeting an insurgent IED expert in Lashkar Gah District, Helmand province, Jan. 20, was successful.
The target, Abdul Salam, commanded IED manufacturing cells, ordered IED emplacement targeting Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF, acted as an illegitimate judge, coordinated IED attacks and has been active in narcotics networks in the Band-e-Timor region of Maiwand District.
After tracking Abdul Salam for a long period, an ISAF air weapons team engaged, killing the insurgent when he was alone in an unpopulated area.

Indirect fire rounds, employed by insurgents, impacted near a Shura in Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, Jan. 23, killing two Afghan children and wounding four.
During a weekly Sunday shura in Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, insurgent indirect fire rounds impacted the area where villagers were congregated, killing one child and wounding five others.
U.S. special forces attending the shura coordinated immediate evacuation of the injured children. During the medical evacuation, insurgents continued firing when helicopters arrived to transport the wounded children to a hospital. An air weapons team provided security support for the medical evacuation and upon safe arrival at hospital, one of the children died of wounds.
Five children were transported by helicopter to Bastion Role III hospital; however, one died of her wounds upon arrival.
As three of the children undergo surgery for their wounds, coalition forces are assisting in transporting family members to the hospital.
